Leonard Dana Obituary

Leonard Dana Leonard E. Dana, 94, died February 7, 2015, at his home in Nipomo. He was a lifelong resident of Nipomo and fourth generation descendant of local pioneer Captain William G. Dana. Leonard was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Nipomo Men's Club, and the Republican Party. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific as a weatherman and radio operator. After the war, he was a farmer, rancher, and owner-operator of Nipomo Liquors for 50 years. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, his sharp intelligence, generous hospitality and occasional cantankerousness will be sorely missed. He loved God, the Catholic Faith, his family, his heritage, his friends and the land. His life was a witness to faith, perseverance and loyalty, and his memory will be cherished. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Virginia T. Dana, who passed away in August, 2014, and his oldest son, Michael, who passed in 2004. He is survived by 6 children, 39 grandchildren, 6 great- grandchildren and 2 sisters. Funeral arrangements are through Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel in Grover Beach. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Nipomo on Thursday, February 19, at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass in the Extraordinary Form will be held at St. Joseph on Friday, February 20, at 10:00am. The burial will follow at the Arroyo Grande Cemetery. A reception will be on Saturday, February 21, at the Nipomo Men's Club, beginning at 1:00pm. Sign his guestbook at sanluisobispo.com/obituaries

Just want to let the family know how sad we are about there dad. I am Jeri (Robinson)Simon and we grew in in Nipomo and lived right down town and spent much time at the liquor store. I am going to let my sisters know Betty, & Fran know we all send our prayers. I did go see him the last time I was in town, and he was the same as all way and your mother was still alive then.

I had the pleasure of serving Leonard and his son at their market in Nipomo.. faithful, honest, strong in their beliefs, kind and fair. These would be words I would use to describe both of them. They both made a large impact in their worlds. There presence will be felt through the love they shared. My condolences to the family. The world was a better place because they shared their lives with all of us.
