Lorna Lewis Obituary

Lorna Lewis At the age of 90, Lorna Joy Livingston Lewis passed away in San Luis Obispo, California on the morning of September 29, 2014 following complications from two fractured hips. She was born in Danvers, Massachusetts in October, 1923 to Fred Albert Livingston and Katherine Molly Jones. Lorna spent most of her early life in the New England area on the East Coast. She also lived in Minnesota during part of the Great Depression. Lorna graduated from Westfield (Massachusetts) High School in 1941 with honors. During World War II, Lorna worked for the Mass Mutual Life Insurance Company. Lorna then ventured to California where she worked in Los Angeles for two years before returning to Springfield, Massachusetts to take care of her ailing mother. In 1954, Lorna moved back to California and became a permanent West Coast resident. Lorna recalled that in her early years she adamantly declared she would never marry a Texan. In 1957, Lorna married Texan Charles "Chuck" Harry Lewis at the Brentwood Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles. They were happily married for 37 years until Chuck's passing in 1994. After moving to Pacific Palisades in 1971, Lorna worked for Security Pacific Bank (now Bank of America) on Sunset Blvd. She later took a job at the Palisades Library where she worked for over ten years. Lorna lived in the Palisades for 30 years before moving to San Luis Obispo in 2002 to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law. Lorna and Chuck were regulars at the Palisades Drug Store Caf‚ where they enjoyed coffee and conversation on a daily basis and tried to solve the world's problems with their fellow "cronies," as Chuck would call them. Lorna was also very active for several years as the "Scoutmaster's Wife" in Troop 400 and supported Chuck's creative endeavors in the Palisades and Malibu art associations. Lorna was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck; her parents, Fred and Katherine Livingston and her siblings: Geraldine, Meredith (Tom), Warner, Evangeline (Tootie), Sylvia, and Angela (Bunny). She is survived by her two sons, Robert (Sharon) and William and grandchildren: Eric, Emily, and Erin. Lorna's love of family, as a dedicated and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother, were her greatest accomplishments. Funeral service will be held graveside at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park on Friday, October 24 (her birthday) at 11:00am, located at 5600 Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village, Calif.
