Michael Miller Obituary

Lt. Michael Miller Lt. Michael Paul Miller, known by many as "Peanut," 45, passed away June 20, 2015, while on duty for the Green Bay Metro Fire Department. He was discovered unresponsive by his Station #3 crew early Saturday morning. Michael was born in September 1969, in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He graduated from Washington Park High School in Racine in 1987. Michael joined the USAF in 1991. It was during his time in the Air Force, while stationed at Chanute Air Force Base, that Mike met the love of his life, his wife, Melanie (Elliott) Miller. During this time, he also found his true calling, firefighting. Lt. Miller was an 18 year veteran of the Green Bay Metro Fire Department. He was happiest while on duty, serving his community, always with his infectious smile and quick wit. Michael loved golfing, fishing, hunting, and spending time up north. Lt. Miller is survived by his wife of 23 years, Melanie and his son, Cameron; his mother and step-father, Carol and Keith Wuenstel; his father and step-mother, Ted and Joyce Miller; a sister and brother-in-law, Melissa and Michael McCreery; a nephew, Michael J.; uncles and aunts, Stephen Russo, Thomas and Sherry Russo, Jane Chiappetta, Gretchen Killips, Melinda and Rich Yale; and many cousins, too numerous to mention by name. Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, Stephen H. and Marjory Jane Russo, Phyllis M. Russo, Ted and Helen Miller; an uncle, Ron Killips and an aunt, Pamela Savaglio. Visitation will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 3425 Willow Road, Green Bay, Wisconsin, from 4:00 to 8:00pm on Sunday, June 28. Visitation will continue on Monday, June 29 at the church from 9:00 to 10:45am. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday at the church with Rev. Daniel Viertel officiating. The Firefighter Bell Ceremony will conclude the services. Proko-Wall Funeral Home is assisting the family. To send online condolences visit www.prokowall.com. Mike loved life, to laugh, and most of all, his family. He will be deeply missed.

I met Mike when I worked at the City of Green Bay Fire Dept. shop. I saw him for the last time a few years ago at station 5; we parted on good terms with a hand shake. Sorry for your loss, he was a good man and an asset to the GBFD.
