Robert Bishop Obituary

Robert Bishop February 1919 - May 2015 Robert "Bob" W. Bishop, Sr. passed away in his sleep on May 17, 2015. Throughout his life Bob was a thoughtful, caring, generous and considerate human being to both family members and friends. He was always involved with civic organizations like the Lion's Club and with his church. While living in the San Luis Obispo area, he volunteered at Sierra Vista Hospital and was very active in United Church of Christ on Los Osos Valley Road. He graduated from the University of Michigan as a metallurgical engineer and worked for Union Carbide in New York and at Eastman Kodak at various locations during his career. He held advanced degrees from both UCLA and USC. In his last position at Kodak, he was the manager of the film processing laboratory in Hollywood, California. Bob was a proud member of the U.S. Navy in World War II and served on a Liberty Supply Ship in the Pacific. He always enjoyed travelling, family gatherings, playing bridge and golf and fixing things. He met his first wife, Agnes, at the University of Michigan and they were married for 58 years. They had three children. Both Agnes and his youngest son, George, preceded Bob in death. Bob is survived by his second wife, Kathleen Tanner, to whom he was married for 13 years and with whom he shared several memorable cruises. He is also survived by son, Robert W., Jr. (Fonna); daughter, Dianne (George) Krall; by stepchildren, Bill (Chris) Tanner, Ron (Lynn) Tanner, and Suzy (Doug) Reynolds; and by several loving grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Kirsten, Jonna, and Kim remember him especially well. Now in a far better place, we wish him peace and comfort. A Memorial Service will be held at the United Church of Christ on Los Osos Valley Road at 3:00pm on Saturday, May 30. Contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to the United Church of Christ or to Central Coast Hospice. Sign his guestbook at sanluisobispo.com/obituaries

I regret losing a great friend. But Bob had a way of being a great friend to everyone who ever knew him. Ed

Kathleen,
Don and I have spent many enjoyable evenings playing duplicate bridge with you and Bob at the SLO Senior Center.
Are memories of Bob are those of a very nice man and an avid Dodger fan (you too). Our thoughts are with you at this time.
