Robert Strong
January 15, 1947 - September 16, 2024
Anchorage, Alaska - Robert started this earthly life's journey in Hillsdale, Michigan as the second child and only son of Horace and Betty (Pitts) Strong. In 1948 the small family of four headed west to California and stopped in Morro Bay, Ca.
In the summer of 1950 the family of five headed back to Hillsdale, Michigan.
After only five years the call of the coast was great and back to Morro Bay. That's where Bob made many life time friends, explored the Bay and all the world around him. Bob graduated from Morro Bay High School in 1965 and married his High School Sweetheart, Barbara Swan. Then the draft call and a baby on the way ended up in Vietnam returning with Three Purple Hearts.
Returning to M.B. and recovered he started work with P.G.&E. as a brush cutter for the transmission lines out of Diablo Canyon into the San Joaquin Valley. Then the call of adventure, he packed his very young family of five and headed to Alaska stopping in Seward. Landing a job with the power company and studying to become a Journeyman Lineman. The winter work stories keeping the area on line are crazy ones. Then in 1983 they moved to Anchorage and continued his career with Chugach Electric Company as a Journeyman Lineman. Life in Alaska was his magical world. Bob could fix almost anything, mechanical, structural and of course electrical. He was a beautiful cabinet maker, metal work, leaded glass art and his artistic wood craft was fabulous. He had many surprise wood projects planned for this winter. Robert was always the man, when you called, he came to help, 24/7.
Robert was the strength and leader of his family, everything to everyone.
His faith was constant in his walk.
Robert is survived by his wife Barbara, 58 years this October. His children Paul Strong (Nancy), Becky Risk (Jay) of Anchorage and Estaline Cooke (Jason) of Soldotna, Ak..
