Ronald Johnstone Obituary

Ronald Ray "Ron" Johnstone, 65, passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013. He was born in Newkirk, Okla.,, where he lived until he joined the U.S. Navy upon graduation. He proudly served for four years, with several tours to Vietnam. He was stationed in Lemoore, Calif., where he chose to stay at his discharge. Ron met and married Pat in Hanford, Calif., in 1973. They moved to Los Osos in 1975 and relocated to Atascadero in 1991. Ron was the owner and contractor of Ron Johnstone Painting for the past 30 plus years - he happily semi-retired last year. He and Pat had been volunteers for the International Association of Healing Rooms for the past nine years. They directed the North County Healing Rooms for the past seven years in Paso Robles and more recently, in Atascadero. He loved Jesus Christ and was a gifted story teller, writer and communicator of his savior's love. Ron is survived by his wife, Pat Johnstone; children Ron Johnstone Jr., Jessica Martinez (Robert), Michael Paul Johnstone and Josiah Johnstone; and soon to be daughter in-law, BreEle Baker. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Zyan Johnstone; brother, Robert Johnstone Jr. of Derby, Kan.; sister, Linda Johnstone of Hastings, Fla.; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Walker Johnstone Sr. and Dorothie Mae Johnstone of Newkirk, Okla. A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at the North County Healing Rooms, 6995 San Luis Ave. in Atascadero. Ron truly was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song...
I'll love him forever.
Carrying on the dream.

Bar none, Ron was the best man I ever knew in my life. He gave of himself more than any person I know of. He left footsteps on the sands of time. this poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow describes him for me:

A Psalm of Life

Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.

Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.

Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
Is our destined end or way;
But to act, that each to-morrow
Find us farther than to-day.

Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
And our hearts, though stout and brave,
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
Funeral marches to the grave.

In the world's broad field of battle,
In the bivouac of Life,
Be not like dumb, driven cattle!
Be a hero in the strife!

Trust no Future, howe'er pleasant!
Let the dead Past bury its dead!
Act,— act in the living Present!
Heart within, and God o'erhead!

Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time;

Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing o'er life's solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again.

Let us, then, be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait.

Ron was a great man... and this is the part that fits...

Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time
Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing o'er life's solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again.

Seeing...I have taken heart due to this wonderful man.

If he were here...I would say thank you...so I am saying it to you instead..
Love...Sue

Dear Pat and family, I don't know if you remember us--we were in the same babysitting co-op when all our children were little--at least Ronnie Jr. and Jessica. It was such a surprise to meet again when Krisiten and her family moved to Atascadero. Please accept our deepest sympathies in the loss of Ron.

We still remember how baby Jessica didn't like me but really liked Dave!! Love to you all.

Dad,
You were a man of wisdom, a man who walked the talk. You taught me about being a man that can be counted on. At times, I did not understand certain things, yet now, I find myself doing the same things as you.
I love, I respect you, I miss and honor you. I know, you're in a better place. Thank you, for being the greatest father, a son could ask for. I love you.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I have wonderful memories of times I spent with Ronnie when we would visit Uncle Bob and Aunt Dorothy's home. He was a big part of my childhood. We always had good times when Mom(Aunt Lella and Dad (Uncle Melvin) would go visit all our family in Oklahoma. It was always so special because we did not have any family in Louisiana.
All the Aunts, Uncles, Grandma Dollie, and cousins always came to Aunt Dorthie's house. Great times!
