Susan Ruth Young

Susan Ruth Young Susan Ruth Young, age 101, passed away January 10, 2019, after a brief illness. Susan was the youngest of the six children of Simon and Susan Semichy. She grew up in San Jose, CA. After graduating from Los Gatos High School she attended UC Berkeley, where she met her future husband, Chester (Chet) Young. In 1954 they and their two children moved to San Luis Obispo, where Chet started teaching in the Cal Poly Math Dept. Susan had many dear friends, and had a very active social life. She was still giving dinner parties at age 98! She loved the symphony and Cal Poly Arts performances, and was a season ticket holder to the San Francisco Ballet for many years. She loved to travel with her friends, and visited much of the world. Susan was predeceased by her husband, parents and siblings. She is survived by her son, Sheldon Young, and her daughter, Susan (Michael) Gleason. She is also survived by two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, ten great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. Private inurnment has been held.
