Tom White Obituary

Tom White passed away at his home Sunday, May 15, 2005.

A memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, at St. Timothy's Catholic Church of Morro Bay.

Born May 24, 1920, in Cambridge, Mass., Tom lived and went to school there until 1937, when he went to Chatham, New Brunswick, Canada, former home of his mother, went to college there two years and enlisted in the Canadian service, where he served two years. He returned to the United States in 1941, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was in a unit seeking German Submarines which were active off the East Coast of the United States. He was later transferred to the South Pacific, where he served with distinction until World War II ended.

Tom met and married his wife, Jean, while they were both in college at San Francisco State University. From there, he went to the University of Washington in Seattle, receiving a master's in Far Eastern and Russian studies and a degree in library science.

Tom lived in Morro Bay 45 years and loved the Central Coast. He was active in the Morro Bay Yacht Club, serving in various offices, including commodore. He was a member of St. Timothy's Catholic Church of Morro Bay and was an active Democrat. He served as a docent at the Natural History Museum of Morro Bay many years, a job he particularly enjoyed. He was also a member of Friends of the Library and was a prolific reader.

Tom is survived by his son, Christopher White, his wife, Eileen, and their children, Amber and Nathan, of Redding; daughter, Susan Callado, her husband, Rodolfo, and their son, Rodolfo, of Los Osos; son, Eric White, and his daughter, Natalie, of Morro Bay; and daughter, Michelle Forrester, her husband, Bryant, and their children, Alexandria and Nicholas, of Boise, Idaho.
