Walter Kurth Obituary

Walter Nicholas Kurth, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006, in San Luis Obispo. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, at Reis Family Mortuary in Cayucos. Friends are welcome; please no flowers or donations. Born Jan. 29, 1920, in Freeport, Ill., Walter joined the Marine Corps in August 1941. He went to boot camp in San Diego, Calif., and met Daisy Marie. He completed two tours in the Pacific Islands, in 2nd Division tanks. He married Daisy Marie in 1943 and was discharged in San Diego, Calif., in 1946. Walter attended refrigeration school in Chicago, Ill., then returned to San Diego in 1947. He worked in refrigeration and retired from Local #230 United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters in San Diego as a 50-year member. In 1990, he moved to Smith River, Calif., and to Craig, Colo., in 2002. In 2004, Daisy Marie passed away and Walter moved to Cayucos in 2006 to be close to his son Norman. He is survived by brother Jake of Sheridan, Wyo.; sisters, Marion of Freeport, Ill., Ruth of Greendale, Wis.; son Norman of Cayucos; daughter Lorna Tunks of Craig, Colo.; step daughter Rose Marie of Brethren, Mich.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Walter was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Daisy Marie.
