Mildred "Millie" Bechtol was born October 14, 1930, to John and Lucy Isaacs in McKee, Kentucky. She died on Sunday, May 29, 2022, in Austin at the age of 91.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Dr. William "Bill" M. Bechtol; her parents, John and Lucy Isaacs; brothers Glendon, Lenval, Clifton, George William, and John Douglas; and sisters Lillian and Rozella.
Mrs. Bechtol is survived by two sons, William "Bill" Bechtol Jr., and wife, Sharon, of Austin and Robert A. Bechtol of Austin; a daughter, Susan E. Giddings and husband, Scott, of Waco; a brother-in-law, Reverend Larry Bechtol and wife, Beth, of Cincinnati, Ohio; five grandchildren: Sara Anne Giddings Miller (Austin), Kate Reyna (Pablo), Alyson Strahan (Aaron), Kelli Bechtol, and Zenobia Caudill (Gary); and seven great grandchildren.
Mrs. Bechtol was valedictorian of her high school class in Verona, Ohio. On September 6, 1952, she married Bill Bechtol, the love of her life. She supported him throughout his academic career, from Ohio to Minnesota, and finally to Texas. She edited the four books and numerous journal articles he wrote, supported his work as Rotary District Governor, and personally nursed him during his lengthy illness. They loved traveling together and hosting holidays, dinners, and special events for family and friends. Millie proudly supported her children's and grandchildren's various activities. An active member of First United Methodist Church of San Marcos, she regularly volunteered at the Twice Blessed Consignment Shop and hosted prayer groups. Millie served on the San Marcos City Cemetery Board, was a member of the Brackenridge Club, and volunteered for the Heritage Association of San Marcos. An ardent supporter of Texas State, she was a member of the University Women's Club, Bobcat Club, and Friends of Fine Arts & Communication. She was a master level bridge player, taught beginner bridge, and regularly hosted bridge games. Mrs. Bechtol will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at Pennington Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm with internment to follow at the San Marcos City Cemetery.
