Nettie Lucyle Dauchy Meadows

Nettie Meadows Obituary

Nettie Lucyle Dauchy Meadows was born on Aug. 10, 1917, in Fentress, the loving daughter of Joseph Cullen Dauchy Sr. and Myrtle Woodward Dauchy. She was named after her two grandmothers — Nettie Woodward and Lucy Smith Dauchy. She joined God's Choir of Heavenly Angels on March 14, 2008.Lucyle is survived by her dear and devoted sister, Mayme Dauchy Weber, her daughter Jackie Taylor (Bill) of San Antonio, and her son Ronnie Meadows (Debbie) of Tow, grandson Mark Aldrich, Panama City, Fla. and his three children, Matthew, Daniel and Sarah; Michael Rainey of Burnet; granddaughters Terrie Dean Meadows, Corpus Christi, Marcia Renee Maurer (Billy), and her children Melanie and Mason, San Antonio; Traci Meadows Hern (Tommie), Washington, D.C. and Shawn Meadows and her son Eli, Austin. She is also survived by four nephews whom she dearly loved, Dr. Cullen Myers Dauchy, DVM (Alice Ann); Bruce Offer (Dot), New Jersey, Gary Offer (Reggie), South Carolina; and Al Weber, Austin. She is also survived by a very special niece Suzanne Weber Vordenbaum (Mike), Fentress and Karla Weber, San Antonio, sister-in-law Grace Dauchy and a host of great nieces and nephews, special cousins, and dear friends. Her husband Joseph Lovel “Buck” Meadows predeceased her as well as her sister Myrtle Offer (Lawrence), brothers Joseph Cullen “Bub” Dauchy Jr. (Norma) and Roger Adelbert Dauchy. Lucyle was privileged to grow up in a family where there was always much love and respect for family which has continued through the generations.Lucyle attended school in Fentress, graduating as Salutatorian of her class. She attended Mary Hardin Baylor University and Southwest Texas Teachers College majoring in business administration. On Dec. 26, 1936 she married Joseph L. Meadows and became a very devoted wife and mother who always put her family's interests first. She was a Girl Scout leader and a den mother and Sunday School teacher. When her children were older she worked as a bookkeeper for her husband's construction company, a payroll clerk for a clothing manufacturer and as a bookkeeper for a homebuilder. Later, she accepted a position at the Brown Schools in San Marcos where she really enjoyed interacting with the students, writing to their parents about their activities and accompanying them on flights to visit their families. Her last and most memorable job was at the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library, going there even before the library was completed. Being a secret history buff, she thoroughly enjoyed her years at the library, where she met many dignitaries and developed a great admiration and love for Lady Bird and other members of the library staff. Lucyle loved to travel and was able to make several trips to Europe before her retirement. Her main regret was not going to the Holy Land soon after her retirement.Lucyle was raised in and for much of her life very active in the Presbyterian Church; however, after her retirement and move back to Fentress, she joined the Fentress Methodist Church — a church her grandparents helped to found in 1905. Those of us who know and love Lucyle will have a great void in our lives; however, we can give thanks for having had such a wonderful and loving person grace our lives.A memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday, March 19 at 10 a.m. at Pennington Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial gifts to Fentress Methodist Church, Fentress.Arrangements under the care and guidance of Pennington Funeral Home, 323 N. Comanche, San Marcos, TX 78666, 353-4311.
