Alexander Groswird passed away peacefully on November 18th in his home in San Jose. He was 90 years old. Born and raised in San Francisco, the middle son of three children born to Alexander and Mariam (Benson) Groswird. Alex was a true family man loved by his entire extended family.
Alex graduated from Sacred Heart High School and was later a Marine played football while he was in service. After his discharge from the Marines, he received a football scholarship to Oregon State University where he received a Civil Engineering degree.
Alex met his wife Beverly on a blind date set up by a mutual friend. After their marriage in San Francisco, they moved to Oregon while Alex attended Oregon Sate University. Alex lost his wife Beverly in 1995.
Upon graduating from Oregon State, Alex had a long and successful career building major construction projects all over the San Francisco Bay area. He went on to start his own construction and engineering company, Alex Groswird Construction Co. Both his sons and daughter Lisa worked with him there.
Alex met and married Carol Talty in 1997after being set up by mutual friends. Alex really enjoyed Carol's family and loved having everyone together. Together they would spend time at Carol's son, Michael Talty's vineyard, where Alex really enjoyed helping with the daily project involved in processing the grapes. He and Carol would enjoy many social outings, parties with friends an golfing activities at the San Jose Country Club. In Alex's final year and as his health steadily declined, Carl was a wonderful caregiver and worked hard to make his transition at home as peaceful and comfortable as possible.
Alex had many passions in life. His love of golf provided him many years of happiness and strong friendships. Other passions of Alex included reading the morning paper from cover to cover with his morning coffee, tinkering around his garage making a multitude of wood furniture and fixing and building project for those he loved. Let's not forget his Scotch and water and a good party with friends. To all those he spent time with and enjoyed him at social gatherings, his presence will be missed in the parties to come.
