Dan Stevenson Obituary

Daniel Theodore Stevenson was born in 1964 in Richmond, California. As a child, he grew up in the hills of Berkeley, where he experienced the turbulence of the '60s spiritual/cultural revolution, which opened his eyes to fairness, peace, love, and justice. He went to John Muir Elementary School, Willard Junior High and Berkeley High School, later graduating from UCSC in Santa Cruz. He majored in Psychology, which served him well as an adult in dealing with people, relationships, and social situations. Being naturally athletic, he loved football and baseball and was a CalBears fan, having attended many UC Berkeley games with his fathergo Bears! He had a passion for cooking and loved being in the kitchen. In 2019, he and his partner, Sheilah, studied deeper levels of nutrition and the "cleansing diet," which gave him vibrant health and the ability to overcome health problems. Early on in life, he had a variety of jobs until he settled into bus driving for the Santa Cruz Metro (1998-2019). From 2021 to December 12, 2023, he drove the campus shuttle buses for UCSC. December 29th, after being unconscious for 16 days following a serious bus crash on the UCSC campus, Dan was taken off of life support, as was his wish in his Advanced Health Care Directive. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. He was always thinking about the safety of others, serving the community and had an open heart for the poor and unfortunate. Through it all, he perceived life's ironies with a keen wit and a great sense of humor. His parents, Maria and William Stevenson, and his older brother, Chris, are now all deceased. He will be lovingly remembered by his cousins Lark Ann Cobb, Mary Cobb and the Stevenson/ Cobb second cousins. Dan is dearly missed by his girlfriend and partner of 14 years, Sheilah Renaud. Dan would want everyone to be kind and do generous things for othersto bring about the highest outcome for our planet.

He was a great man for his Union at work. He attended meetings and spoke up for all of us at every opportunity. He was also a great guy to work with who would always greet you with a smile. This is a sad and tragic loss to our community, small and large.
I did not know him outside of our work together at Santa Cruz Metro, but I recognized him as a great guy even in the most difficult circumstances.
RIP Dan, you most definitely will be missed. My condolences to his family and loved ones.
