Resident of Santa Cruz
Josefina Sousa Mendonca, beloved mother, sister, wife and friend, passed away on October 8, 2016 at her home in Santa Cruz under the loving care of her son, Joe.
Josefina was born in Lomba, on the island of Flores, Azores and moved to the US in 1966, eventually making her home in Santa Cruz. She was a hard worker and had a strong work ethic. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and knitting. Above all, she was a kind, caring and selfless person, always thinking of others and their needs.
Josefina is survived by her son, Joe D. Mendonca; her sister, Teresa Faria; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Joe P. Mendonca, and her beloved daughter, Maria Martinez.
Services are private. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband and daughter at Holy Cross Cemetery in Santa Cruz. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Santa Cruz SPCA at www.spcasc.org/donate
