Nina was born in Tallahassee Florida on Aug. 25th 1953, to Gerald R. Eckland and Marion A. Eckland. Nina's father was a sales executive so travel was the only constant for Nina when she was growing up. She started her life in Florida, but lived in different states growing up such as Pennsylvania and New York. Nina's family arrived in California in the late 1950's living in many cities including Mill Valley, Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, Pacific Palisades, and finally arriving in Woodland Hills where Nina graduated from high school.
After high school Nina went into medical administration work and moved to the Santa Cruz area. Here Nina's life took on new meaning and purpose. She began the career of her lifetime working for Dr. Adams and the Bay Eye Medical Group. This was to be a lifelong connection that would continue until her last time with us.
When Nina moved to Santa Cruz she met her husband Steve who survives her. Steve and Nina were inseparable for over 34 years. They complimented each other and made a wonderful and memorable life together. Steve and Nina didn't have children, but they had a happy life together shared with their beloved "Scotty" dogs.
Nina touched many lives and always brought a smile with her wherever she went no matter what the circumstances. To light up the room was expected for Nina. Kindness, consideration, thoughtfulness, and laughter were the gifts that she shared with all who met her. Much like the wine that Nina so enjoyed so was her presence to all of us who miss her. When we raise our glasses let us remember Nina who drank deeply of life and gave great joy to all who came into her life.
