Ruben Gomez Obituary

Ruben Gomez
Nov. 5, 1941-Dec. 20, 2019
Santa Cruz
Beloved father, brother, son and friend to all that met him. Ruben passed away peacefully and on his own terms after a long illness. Ruben devoted his life to his family and his community, supporting veterans everywhere, and never knew a stranger. His smile, positive outlook, jokes and pranks will be missed by all that knew him. The family is grateful to his friends who stuck by his side and looked out for him.
Ruben was predeceased by his loving parents, Peggy and Julio, beloved brothers Corky, David and Michael. Ruben is survived by his brothers Julio, Ralph, Leo, George and Roy; sisters Lydia, Clara, Carmen and Cristina; and his six children, Ruben (Diane), Victor (Doris), Vincent (Maureen), Phillip (Tami), Semilla (Michael) and Lorenzo; Fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; and many, many loving friends and family.
Pacific Garden Chapel, 1050 Cayuga Street, Santa Cruz 95062 will hold both the viewing on Friday January 3, 2020 from 4pm to 8pm, and services on January 4, 2020 at 3pm. Final services will be at Fort Ord (California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery), at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to DAV Chapter 52 Santa Cruz, in his name.
Now I walk in beauty. Beauty is before me, beauty is behind me, above and below me.

I will miss him!. He was part of Santa Cruz and its history! I had known him for a long time. It took a while for it to sink in that he's passed on! We will all miss him of course!! He was an acquaintance but I felt like he was a friend or even a brother!

My deepest sympathies go out to the Gomez family.
It's been many years since I have seen Ruben but I got to know him well thru his brother Roy going back almost 50 years now. Ruben always had a great attitude and I always thought him to be a great guy!
RIP Ruben and I'll look forward to seeing you one day on the other side!

Hi Pop, it is your time to rest now and please be at peace as the sun sets and enjoy the beauty that surrounds you now. Drop us a smile once in a while. You will be deeply missed and forever loved as you live with us in our hearts and we will honor you in life moving forward.

Thank you to those who were by his side looking out for him in his final days and you are a part of him and the man he was. I am grateful he was loved by so many and we have a larger family because of you. To his friends in Santa Cruz, know there was no place else dad would ever have called home. Santa Cruz was part of who he was and he would never leave. Our family tree has many branches but the roots run deep in Santa Cruz because of my father.

Goodbye Pop, I miss you, I love you, and I am proud of the man you had become.

Ruben was my cousin, we grew up together, our childhood memories were awesome, we moved on in different directions when we got older, but we still got together every once in awhile, we used to take a men's softball team to Santa Cruz to play Los Vatos and also my wife's team to play in tournaments in the 80's I believe, my friends still talk about them times and what great people Ruben and his brothers were. I don't remember Ruben ever saying anything bad about anyone, he was a solid guy with great character. Descansa en Paz Mi Hermano
