Sepulveda John Obituary

John William Sepulveda, 87, passed away in Roseville, CA.

John Sepulveda was a descendant of one of the original Spanish colonists of California. He was born in Oakland, CA to Marion Viola Sepulveda and John Morgan Sepulveda. John was raised on a ranch in Milpitas, CA on land inherited through an 1835 Mexican land grant. While growing up on the ranch, John worked in the apricot orchards.

After graduating from Santa Clara High School in 1952, John went on to obtain a degree in education from San Jose State University. During college he became a third-degree black belt in judo. John was on the state championship team in 1957 and is enshrined in the San Jose State Judo Hall of Fame.

In 1959 John got his first teaching job at Buchser High School in the Santa Clara Unified School District. John taught history and coached football for 35 years. In 1995, while coaching at Wilcox High School, John won the Central Coast Section's Honor Coach award for his contribution to the sport of football at the interscholastic level. In 2011 John was inducted into the SCUSD Hall of Fame for being an outstanding collegiate athlete and football and track coach.

Some of John's lifelong favorite activities were playing the banjo, singing, and gardening.

John was a great guy. Fred and I spent good times with John and Alice. There were dinners, vacations, adventures, etc. that we all enjoyed together. One could always count on John for laughs and jokes and available for help with whatever. The world has lost another gem. I´m sure Fred and John are organizing heaven and hanging out as buds. May God bless them both. And my sympathy to John´s family and loved ones.
Sincerely, Louise
