Services will be held today for Sylvia Cooperstein who passed away on November 19, 2007 at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz, with her loving family at her bedside. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was 78 years old. Mrs. Cooperstein has been a resident of Santa Cruz for the past 25 years. In her youth, she was a very talented athlete, competing in softball. Sylvia worked as a sales associate with many businesses in Santa Cruz and Capitola. She was a familiar face at Leask's, Gottschalk's and J.C. Penny Department stores, where her career in retail sales spanned over 15 years. She also worked at the Teddy Bear Factory for a time. She was also a member of Temple Beth El Jewish Community in Aptos.
Her family will cherish the many memories of Sylvia's talents at cooking wonderful meals for them, and the delicious traditionally baked Jewish pastries that she created. There are many fond memories of Sylvia's bus trips to Las Vegas and Reno with her late husband, Louis, and her love for a good martini. An accomplished painter, she worked with water colors and acrylics; creating beautiful paintings that will be treasured.
Sylvia is survived by her two sons, Bruce Cooperstein of Santa Cruz and Paul Cooperstein of New York, her brother, Murray Greene of New Jersey, and her three grandchildren, Saul, Ezra, and Tessa. She also leaves many loving nieces, nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews, including Geri Telchin and Carly Scheinfeld.
