DAVID ALLAN SHEPARD, JR.
David Allan Shepard, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico at the age of 85 surrounded by his family and his two corgi dogs on July 14, 2021.
David's parents, Katherine B. Fisher and David A. Shepard, Sr. (both of Denver and later, Greenwich), had spent time in Santa Fe in the 1930s, and a handful of cousins had made it their home over the ensuing decades. When David retired in 1986, Santa Fe was a natural choice.
He had been educated in England, lived in Argentina with his first wife, Elizabeth Colvin Shepard, then visiting parts of the Middle East on business before his divorce and moving to Santa Fe where he excelled in his masterful canoeing maneuvers on most Western whitewater rivers.
His degrees were from Deerfield Academy ('53), and Dartmouth ('58), where he was a three-year member of both the squash and soccer teams. Having learned to play cricket as a boy in England, he continued playing with a team in the San Francisco Bay Area and spent 25 years as a Vice President of Wells Fargo Bank before being recruited to start the investment advisory firm, Franklin Asset Management Systems. Later, he developed the Art Barns at Old Road Ranch, south of Santa Fe.
David is survived by his seven exceptional grandchildren; his second wife, Victoria Warner Shepard, her three children, Frederic W. Warner of Baja Sur de California, Mexico, T.C. Victoria Warner Stratton, (Chris) and Cia Thorne, of Santa Fe and two daughters, Laura Berney Shepard (Jeremy Elliot) and Alix Shepard Schulte (Johnny) who visit often.
David Shepard is deeply missed by his close family, golfing partners and a host of friends for his wisdom, elegance, humor, charm, smile, and grace. An internment will take place later at St John's Cathedral in Denver.
