Diego Barela Obituary

Diego I. Barela Age 69, life long resident of Santa Fe, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2011. He was born in Santa Fe on April 14, 1942 to parents Lorenzo Barela and Josefa Silva; he was one of 13 children. Diego is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Carmen Barela; children, Patsy Chavez, Christine Hodges and husband, Bobby, Daniel Barela and wife, Lara; grandchildren: Michelle Maes, Laria Chavez, Javier Chavez, Amanda Hodges, Katelyn Hodges, Danielle Barela, Adriana Barela, Diego Barela, Antoinette Barela, Andrea Barela and Delani Barela; seven great grandchildren; three sisters; three brothers; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; six siblings; and one great grandson. Diego joined the United States Marine Corps from 1959 to 1963. He married Carmen in 1965 and together they raised three children, including several grandchildren. Diego worked in construction for many years then went on to work and retire from the Military Affairs as the Maintenance Supervisor for the Armory's throughout New Mexico. He enjoyed carpentry, playing pool, spending time with his family and going for Sunday cruises. Diego knew no stranger as he made a friend every where he went. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
