Douglas Torhan, 78, passed away on February 19, 2025, in Worcester, MA.
Born in Elizabeth, NJ, on October 10, 1946, to Vincent and Jeannette Torhan, Douglas moved to New Mexico to attend college and never looked back. He was drafted and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and upon returning home, he dedicated many years to serving his community in New Mexico.
He embarked on a career as a Systems Analyst with the State of New Mexico, where he worked from 1975 until his retirement in 2021. His professional life was marked by meticulous attention to detail, a deep understanding of systems operations, and expert knowledge of COBOL.
Douglas was a graduate of New Mexico Tech, which laid the groundwork for his career in information technology. His passion for technology extended into his personal life as well; he was an avid enthusiast of science fiction and computers, always interested in the latest developments and gadgets.
He also had a love for travel, learning Spanish, and automobiles. He often combined these interests by embarking on road trips to Mexico and exploring new destinations. After retiring, he moved to Massachusetts to be closer to his children.
Douglas is survived by his children, April and Matthew Torhan, and extended family in New Jersey and New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Susan Torhan; and his ex-wife, Helen Torran.
His burial will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on September 23rd, followed by a memorial gathering at 4:30 p.m. at Unity Church, 1212 Unity Way, Santa Fe, NM.
Douglas's life will be celebrated among family and friends. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his uniqueness, and the lasting impressions he left on all who knew him.
