Lela Wilson Obituary

Lela Kay Wilson Kay passed away peacefully on December 7, 2010. She was a breast cancer survivor early in life but sadly lost the battle to cancer this year. She was 70. Kay was born in Clovis, New Mexico, on March 23, 1940 and raised by parents Aurvil Rose Price and Lloyd C. Price. She graduated from Clovis High School in 1958. Kay lived in Clovis for many years. She was married to Franz Wilson for 32 years and had three sons, Brent, Kevin, and Grant Wilson. With an inquisitive spirit always ready to explore exciting places, Kay resided in many cities in New Mexico, including Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Rio Rancho, and Las Cruces. Kay had a passion for the outdoors, and she and her family frequently enjoyed camping, hunting, snorkeling, and fishing in New Mexico. She went white water rafting down the Rio Grande and Arkansas rivers, traveled in a hot air balloon, and climbed mountains including Pike's Peak, Mt. Wheeler, and Mt. Taylor. Kay loved Santa Fe and was an energetic member of The United Church of Santa Fe. Most recently, Kay lived in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, where her life adventure continued as she worked as a tour guide. She became a Tai Chi instructor at age 68 at the Pagosa Springs Senior Citizens Hall. At a square dance in Pagosa Springs, she met the love of her life and her companion to the end, Leszek Stobiecki of Farmington, New Mexico. Kay is survived by: Les Stobiecki; her sister RoJeanne Thomas of Amarillo, Texas; her three children Brent Wilson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Kevin Wilson of Clovis, New Mexico; and Grant Wilson of Lubbock, Texas. She has eight grandchildren. She is also survived by nieces Leesa Ferrero of Round Rock, Texas, and Melanie McMullen of Alameda, California. A memorial commemorating her life journey will be held at 11 a.m. on January 15, 2011 at The United Church of Santa Fe, 1804 Arroyo Chamiso. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in her name to The United Church of Santa Fe or the American Cancer Society.
