I met Bob through our mutual love of recorded music at a local audiophile house party, and quickly learned respect for his passion for vinyl records, DIY stereo components and rearranging his speakers to achieve optimum sound quality. He was a warm and sharing musical friend who curated some of the most interesting, one-on-one music listening sessions I have ever experienced. Every record he played followed another selected for variety and musical stimulation, fit a theme or curated mood he was building, often ranging far back in time and with selections from unfamiliar origins. He was very inventive and had thousands of hours of listening informing his special musical choices for each evening. The selections were always the best, most special versions and picked because they especially suited the sound quality of his latest speaker set ups and often had that ethereal, magical, transparent sound stage where you can pick out in space where each musician was standing or sitting and almost see them performing. He knew the details of the "dead wax" information inscribed by hand on each record and the codes for the number of the pressing, the stamping number, the studio, the recording engineer and the little details that discriminated between the "great" pressings and the merely "good" ones. I heard some very special music in Bob´s living room as he revealed each new track, sometimes with a preamble of explanation, sometimes presented to totally surprise you. His music taste and experience were so broad that you might hear almost anything form any era presented in an inventive sequence that made you want to find that same special version of an album he had collected from his endless weekends of garage sales buying the boxes of records that people just want to clear away to make space in their garage. If the price was right, he´d buy whole boxes sight unseen just to spend the next week examining each one for the unexpected finds he might luck into or spot. I never felt my listening nights with Bob at my house ever matched the creativity of the nights at Bob´s house, but he always was a gracious listener and guest with keen observations about the music and ideas on how to position speakers for a slight improvement in the sound stage. I had not seen him recently, but definitely thought of him as a mentor in my musical journey to assemble an ever-evolving, higher quality sound system. He gave me boxes of used records he no longer had room for, and I was always looking for particular records or CDs I´d heard over at his house. It´s sad to know he has passed, but his musical spirit has become part of my whole attitude toward music and I´ll never feel like he´s actually gone, because I remember so much of what he taught. He was a good friend and a sad personal loss. Condolences to Kathleen, Molly and Peggy.

Bob
Bob was my first boss out of college back in the mid `90s, and he quickly became much more than that, he was a mentor, a friend, and a steady presence in my life.
He taught me how to golf, about as well as anyone could, and we spent countless hours playing pool, sharing cold drinks, and solving the world´s problems one conversation at a time. We laughed until our sides hurt, especially during our many adventures across the West and a memorable work trip to Hawaii.
Bob adored Kathleen and Molly, and his love for them was always front and center. He had a passion for cooking and a soft spot for his cats. I´ll never forget one of them, "Ramon the Sausage," who, in Bob´s words, resembled me if I were a cat. We swapped recipes and cooked some truly great meals together.
Bob´s impact on my life was profound, and the memories we made are ones I´ll always treasure.
