Barry Van Meter Obituary
1956 - 2025
Barry Wayne Van Meter, 68, of Santa Maria, CA passed away January 24th, 2025. Barry was born in San Jose, CA on February 3rd, 1956 and relocated to the Central Coast with his family shortly after. Barry began learning his trade as a machinist while attending Santa Maria High School until his graduation in 1974.
Upon graduation, Barry joined the Navy and traveled the world via a submarine. His time with the Navy would be a point of pride for his remaining years, sharing tales of his adventures.
Barry's next stage in life brought him back home to take on the challenge of being a master machinist for decades. These years were spent cheering for the Philadelphia Eagles, being a member of the ELKS and producing the best barbeque for his family. It wasn't a holiday or birthday without Barry at the grill, happy to cook for his grandchildren Jack and Allison.
Most recently Barry attended his 50th high school reunion where he enjoyed reconnecting and sharing life experiences with his classmates. Barry found pleasure in reading books about history and playing his guitar. He loved music from the 60's and 70's, especially the Beatles.
Barry is survived by his wife Patricia Rae Van Meter; his stepchildren, David Aldrich, Michael Aldrich (Sumera Qureshi), Diana Aguilar (Michael Aguilar), Kelly Aldrich and Rebecca Aldrich; his brother, Dennis Van Meter; his sister, Debra Fields; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Barbara.
Barry will be interred at Bakersfield National Cemetery.
