Joseph S. Avila

Joseph Avila, 84 passed away January 26, 2010 in Santa Maria, CA. He was born on April 15, 1925 in Durango, Mexico. At a young age, he came to Santa Maria. He was a resident of Santa Maria most of his life.
He attended Santa Maria High School and later attended Adult Night School. He also became a US Citizen in 1975. Prior to his retirement as a superintendent, he joyfully worked and maintained Tepusquet Vineyards. He was very fond of his time in the vineyards since he had great appreciation for making wine.
During his retirement, he volunteered for the Food Bank of Santa Maria. He was also an active member of the Santa Maria Senior Center.
Joseph is survived by his wife Maria M. Avila, his four children; Joseph Avila, Jr. and daughter-in -law Gina Avila of Santa Maria, Jackie Bonilla and son-in-law Jason Bonilla of West Los Angeles, Jessica Avila Wasylychyn and son-in-law Monty Wasylychyn of Santa Maria, and Judd D. Avila of Santa Maria. He had 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2010 starting at 5:00 pm followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm in the Chapel of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary. A Funeral mass will be held Friday, January 29, 2010 at 10:00 am at St. John Neumann Church with burial to follow in the Santa Maria Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary, Crematory and Memory Gardens.

Our condolences to all the Avila Family. My monter Antonia worked with him in Tepusquet Vineyards for many years. Even after his retirement the keep in touch, in sometimes they would find each other during their daily morning walks. He was a very active and strong man who will be missed. I also attended school with Jessica. We are very sorry for your loss. From the Santos Family: Jesus, Antonia, and Jessica.
