Vincent Robert Cortez, Vinny, Dad, Poppi, 80 years old, passed away on April 5, 2022, in Santa Maria, California. Vinny was born on April 19, 1941 in Manhattan, New York. He was a hard worker all his life, even as a young boy. He served in the United States Army from 1960-1964. He was a loyal friend and family man who loved to cook and share his meals. He enjoyed bringing meals to the local fire department and chatting with the men at the station. He was actively participating in Santa Maria 's Community Emergency Response Team. He loved his garden and feeding the birds. He loved the beach and traveling and visited many people who were special to him later in his life. He was also a caretaker to many and was there to help loved ones when they needed him most.
Vinny passed away after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He will be dearly missed by all his friends and family.
Vinny is survived by his 5 daughters, Patti Cortez-Bell (Robert), Cindy Mapes (Chuck), Gina Onofre (Sandy), Stacey Dederick (Mark), and Kimberly Cortez; 9 grandchildren, Taylor and Gregory Dederick, Korie Schulte (Jason), Kristopher Mapes, Jade Robinson (Nick), Samantha Kendall (Randy), Michael Onofre, Charly Springall (Eamon), Nicolas Onofre (Dayna), and Giana Onofre; 7 great-grandchildren, Matthew Jones, Kamryn and Kenzie Neurauter, Hudsyn Robinson, Rylie and Zoe Schulte, and Kingston Kendall.
Vinny was preceded in death by his father and mother, Robert and Amelia Cortez, his loving wife Dolores, his daughter Debra, and his grandson Cole.
A memorial service will be scheduled in Las Vegas, Nevada, with interment at Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada.
