Frederic Dailey Obituary

Frederic (Fritz) A. Dailey Sr. GANSEVOORT - Frederic (Fritz) A Dailey Sr. of Gansevoort, New York, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday May 20th, 2017, at Wesley Health Care Center. To all those who knew him it will come as no surprise that his big heart remained strong right up until his last breath. He was 88 years old. Born on January 22nd, 1929 in Watertown New York, he was the son of Helen M Smith Dailey. Fred graduated from Watertown High School class of 1947. Upon graduating, he went to work as a Salesman for Buster Brown shoes in Watertown and later transferred to the Saratoga Springs area and managed Rowes, a shoe store on Broadway. He then accepted a position at Prudential Life Insurance Company, quickly becoming a million-dollar salesman. His final employment was with Macy’s where he helped to launch the Macy’s in Colonie Center. He retired in 1991. In 1993 Frederic and his wife moved to Henderson, Nevada and lived there until returning to the Saratoga Springs area in 2013. Fred met the love of his love, Gertrude, when he was 18 years old. They married on October 8, 1949, and spent the next 67 years dancing in each other’s arms whenever possible. He loved children and was blessed with five sons who learned generosity and unending kindness from their adored dad. Fred was a very spiritual person and read the Bible whenever possible. He lived his beliefs – always making room at the dinner table and in his heart for anyone who crossed his path. He was active in the Saratoga Congregational Church, Saratoga Springs Kiwanis Club, and Saratoga youth baseball. He also was a Boy Scouts Master for many years. He had a great talent for meeting new people and was widely known as the “Candyman” as he always gave those he met Werther’s candies. He is survived by his wife Gertrude Brown Dailey of Gansevoort, NY, 5 sons, Frederic Dailey Jr. and his wife Debra of Ravena NY, David R. Dailey and his wife Francine of Moreau NY, Kevin J Dailey and his wife Susan of Penfield New York, Robert M. Dailey and his wife Donna of Millville NJ, and Christopher J Dailey and his wife Patti Croop of Middle Grove, NY, a brother, Robert I. Dailey of Henderson, NV, 9 grandchildren, Jason. Kelly, Melanie, Danielle, Michael, Jeff, Kelly, Greg, and Ryan and 12 great grandchildren. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 on Tuesday May 23rd at the Tunison funeral home 105 Lake Avenue Saratoga Springs New York. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St Peters Cemetery in Saratoga Springs New York. Memorial donations can be made in his memory to the charity of One’s Choice. Online remembrances can be made at www.tunisonfuneralhome.com The family thanks the Wesley staff, especially those working on the third floor of The Springs, and the hospice nurses who assured Fred’s peaceful transition. Fred’s sons send out heartfelt appreciation to their mom for the incredible care she gave Fred every day they were together, but particularly in the past year and a half.

Gert and family: I was so sorry to hear of Fred's passing. I was at Macy's for almost 25 years and we shared a lot of happy times over the years at parties, etc. On a few occasions when my Mom visited me in Albany overnight, Fred gave my Mom a ride home to Saratoga. Fed was well liked and what a salesman! Had a great personality.

So many memories working with Fred at Macy*s for many years! He was a great salesman-I still have a couple pieces of furniture he helped me pick out- and an even better friend. He always had a story to tell!

Gertrude,Fred,David,Kevin,Robert and Christopher I am truly sorry for the loss of your husband and father. Our families have known each other for many years. Fred was a great family man and a great friend to my family. I was just thinking I went from buying shoes from him to buying furniture to saying goodbye to him and your mom when they moved to LasVegas. He gave me many of laughs when he would come almost everyday to my dads used car lot to have his one smoke and coffee and tell us all a new joke. He will surely be missed by everyone who knew him. Boys please give your mom a hug from me. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. Boys we were all lucky to have such great parents.RIP my friend Fred.

My heart is so sad with the passing of our beloved friend of our whole family for so many years. Fred and Gert were always there for our family and always support. Fred always came to visit every time Don and my self came home. He will truly be missed by all of us. May God rest his sole.

My family and I were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with Fred and Gert many years ago. They are terrific people. I will remember Fred's unending smile and his ability to make you feel special any time I had the chance to sit and talk with him. He truly enjoyed people and had a heart of gold. Enza, James and I were blessed to have known Fred. Our hearts go out to the Dailey family.

Mr Dailey was my coach in little league. He taught us the meaning of fair play and always had a positive attitude. He was a direct influence on how I treat other people, today. Great coach, husband, father and MAN.
