Gaspare AsaroWILTON - Gaspare Asaro, formerly of Brooklyn, NY, died peacefully at Saratoga Hospital, on June 3, 2018, with family by his side. He was 79 years old. Born in Castellammare del Golfo, Sicily, Italy, on June 14, 1938, he was the son of Vincenzo Asaro and Brigida Mule.He came to America at age 19 where he met the love of his life, Lucille Belle Scala, and they married on May 31, 1959. He was a self-made man and became a skilled tradesman. He worked as a custodial helper at Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School in Brooklyn for many years. At the same time, he held a second job to support his family at Rite-Way Woodcrafts, a carpentry shop in Brooklyn. Although he was inexperienced at the start, he discovered he had a natural ability and went on to become a skilled carpenter. In 1985, he became the head carpenter at Cooper Union College in New York City.In 2011, Gaspare and Lucy moved to Wilton to be close to family. He loved every minute of his time here. His greatest joys were his children and his grandchildren. Gaspare was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Lucille, his son Vincent Asaro (Simona), his daughter Bridget Asaro Lawrence (Peter), his son Michael A. Asaro (Erica), and his daughter Carolyn Asaro Mancini (Christopher). He was beloved Papa to Amanda, Christian, Jackson, John, Adam, William, Scarlet, Olivia and Zoe.Relatives and friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday June 10, 2018 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (518-584-5373).Funeral services will be private.
