SARATOGA SPRINGS - It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Judy Mary DeLong, age 74, of Saratoga Springs, New York. Judy passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Albany Medical Center, after a sudden illness, surrounded by her loving family.Judy was born Judith Mary Mills on November 12, 1947, in Malone, New York, the adopted daughter of the late Marie “Rose” and William Sampica.A graduate of Chateaugay High School in Chateaugay, New York, Judy furthered her education by earning both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from SUNY Plattsburgh.Judy dedicated her professional life to protecting abused children, initially as a caseworker for the Clinton County Department of Social Services, and subsequently for decades as a supervisor for the Office of Children and Family Services at the New York Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment Hotline in Albany, New York.Volunteering was important to Judy as she truly enjoyed being able to give back to her community. To this end, she served for decades on the SEFCU credit union board of directors. She also served on both the Saratoga County Economic Opportunity Council and the Saratoga Senior Center boards of directors, organizing fundraising efforts and advocating for grants to support these non-profits. When she wasn't helping others, Judy enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time with family. She was a proud, generous, and especially loving Grammie to her grandchildren. She also enjoyed her pugs and spent many summers relaxing on Chateaugay Lake in the Adirondacks. Judy often opened her home to individuals in need and helped many people who were lost to find their way.Judy is survived by daughter Dara Lanier (Jason); son Jondavid DeLong (Laura); step-daughter Christina Williams; brothers John Sampica and Bill Sampica (Judy); sister Ann Perry (Bradley); brother-in-law Roland Tatro; sister-in-law Cindy Sampica; grandchildren Alison and Caroline Ettinger-DeLong, Liam, Maxfield, and Declan Lanier, Andre Poprilo and Kristen Hakuta; many nieces and nephews and many members of her Mills birth family. Judy is also survived by her longtime friend and dedicated caretaker Sharon Nolan who cared for both Judy and Gino in their respective times of need. Judy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.She is preceded in death by her husband Eugene (Gino) L.
