I was blessed to know Mike as a great friend back when I attended Saratoga Springs High School from 1984 - 1987. I have never forgotten Mike and his huge smile - the kind of smile that that shined and reflected the love, kindness, and happiness he had and shared with everyone in his life. Mike's smile was the size of his huge loving kind heart and I have never forgotten about him. I lost touch with Mike when I moved back to Clifton Park and attended my Senior year of High School at Shenendehoah High School in 1987. 15 years of higher education then years spent being too busy working and not living life, and now sadly, I must admit that I had planned on getting back in touch with him, but did not do so in time. My stepbrother Keith Wilson from Saratoga informed me that Mike had passed and the news immediately brought me to tears. When I saw Mike's picture on Facebook, I was brought to tears immediately as I saw the exact same Mike I remember just like it was yesterday. I cried all night looking at his picture as I prayed for all of you - friends and family alike - all who loved Mike and will miss him the way I do. After losing both of my parents and so many other friends and family since the passing of my parents, I have become all too familiar with grief and pain and loss. That said, when I offer my condolences to everyone here who knew and loved Mike - family and friends - please do know that I really do know and share in the same pain and longing and loss you all feel. I feel Mike's presence and spirit around me - God is real and Mike is not gone - someday we will all see that big beautiful smile as he greets us in heaven and says "what took you guys so long to get here"...:)...I will keep all of you in my constant thoughts & prayers. Feel free to contact me - my email and cell phone # is provided below. Best to text me on the cell first as voicemail is usually full or will be soon after I empty it.

Kindest regards and peace in Christ,

Christopher Grogan

What sad, sad news. I only knew Mike just a little bit, but just a little bit is all you needed with Mike. Mike graduated in 87, me 89 so as a sophomore in the big high school there was always this senior that got your attention in the hallways of the school and that was Mike. I heard this news through good ole social media and thought to myself.... No way, must be another Mike Settles. I've read all the tributes here and the one common theme is "smile", when I referenced " got your attention" that is exactly what I was referring to, the smile, the laughter bellowing out of Mike, just made you want to laugh out loud. Fast forward almost 30 years, I've had the pleasure of running into Mike numerous times throughout Toga and not one damn thing seemed to have changed about Mike... Same smile, same laugh that made me want to laugh, same high energy guy. We had some great conversations over the years and I will miss the opportunity to run into Mike and today I will smile as much as I can in tribute to Mike. Thoughts and prayers to all who knew him and especially to his family. So sorry for your loss!

So saddened by this. Mike was bigger than life. He had a smile that lit up a room and a laugh you knew was his as soon as you heard it. Never without a hug, either. I'm going to miss the chats we had when he came into Napa. And that hug would make your day. Fly high, my Friend. Look down on us. I will never forget you <3

To Mike's family and friends,
Mike's smile was bigger than life and your heart could not help but smile along with him. At the Horseshoe, he was the "candy man" to my children, always giggling and slipping them treats, along with having our backs with his "I gotch you". When I ran into him here at school, I always still got a big hug.
What a tremendous loss of an amazing soul---our love and prayers go out to all of you.
Rest in peace, my friend.
