Robert Seelig Obituary

With our hearts heavy Jeff, Rich and Terri announce the passing of their Dad, Robert S. Seelig on September 9th, 2021. Bob was born April 15, 1931 in Manhattan and raised in Lawrence, Long Island. Following graduation from St. John's College in Annapolis, he attended OCS at the Navel Academy. He proudly served for 3 years in the Navy during the Korean conflict and attained the rank of Lieutenant. While in Maryland he met and married Carol Kight. They relocated to Cheshire, CT where he started working for IBM and they raised their 3 children. Bob, the ultimate "A" type started two successful computer companies, Applied Data Processing and later CAPAC. His hard work wasn't kept just at the office, he enjoyed the competitive Cheshire Softball League and you would find him running the local roads and track. With his roots in New York, he was a long time season ticket holder of the Giants. He passed his love and frustration of the NY Giants to his children and grandchildren where they would attend games together. In 1977, he joined Computer Assistance/Coopers & Lybrand and being a Director of Marketing he traveled quite a bit until his retirement in 1995. He positioned himself well for retirement living in Saratoga, NY and Ormond Beach, FL. He married Esther Klein in 1994 and they had a nice life being snow birds, especially when they took time to enjoy the view of Saratoga Lake from their deck. Esther was very handy and would fix everything which allowed Bob time to play softball, socialize and golf. Esther made him happy until her passing in April of 2020. Bob had a good sense of humor ("sing 'By the Window' and I'll help you out") and liked to be around people. He was fortunate to have a great group of friends and neighbors in Cheshire, Saratoga and Plantation Bay. He played senior softball in Flagler Beach, FL and Cliffton Park NY, kept active in Masters Track and whenever he traveled, he would find a local YMCA. In Florida, he was considered one of the "Old Timers" since he started playing softball in Bunnell in 1996 and later became the Commissioner of the Wadsworth Park Senior Softball League. In his younger days, he was active in the Booster's Club, Cheshire Park and Rec, Albie Booth Committee and MADD. Left to celebrate his life well lived are his children: Jeffrey (Debra), Richard (Christine) and Terri (Donald Snell) and his grandchildren: Christopher and Patrick Seelig, Kimberly Soklow and Bryan Seelig, Wesley and Kathryn Monbaron. He enjoyed the company of his four stepchildren and their children: Mike Klein Laura (Emily and Ally), Tom Klein Maria (Lexi and Casey), Kate Klein (Alex and Aidan) and Sue Look Allen (Kayla and Shelby). He was preceded by his parents, Sigmund and Edna (Turnau) Seelig. There will be a Celebration of Life in Ormond Beach, FL Friday January 7, 2022. Internment will be with Military Honors at the Saratoga National Cemetery June 10, 2022. He was thankful to live in this country and felt "You must find in each new day at least two elements of fun and minimize the negatives of life.". The family requests that donations be made to Halifax Hospice, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129 in memory of Robert Seelig.
