Donald (Don) Lee Kohl passed away peacefully on November 19, 2022.
Don was born in Sterling November 7th, 1936 to Donald T. (Joy McCombs) Kohl. He was lovingly raised by his Aunt and Uncle Chuck and Sunny Staton. He took great pleasure in working in his yard, shopping for antiques and was an avid reader, but most of all Don enjoyed spending time with his family.
Don was united in marriage to Judith Porter in Rock Falls, IL on October 8th 1960.
Don was a 1955 graduate of Sterling High School. Following graduation, Don enlisted in the Navy and was stationed on the USS Princeton Aircraft Carrier.
He started his career at Harold's Furniture in the late 1950's. Throughout the 60's 70's and 80's, he was the proud owner of Kohls Used But Nice, Toy City and Kohls Galena Furniture House in Dixon. He also was the co-owner of Gene's TV in Sterling. He continued his career in sales at local car dealerships in the Rock River Valley area before retirement.
Don is survived by wife Judy, brother Richard (Joan) Kohl, daughter Kimberly K Brausam (James Liebhart), sons Clay (Nollaig McNelis) Kohl and Nicholas Kohl; Grandchildren Rachel L. (Peter) Cole, Donal Kohl, Great Granddaughter Clover Cole, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Don was proceeded in death by his parents, Chuck (Sunny) Staton, brother David (Betty) Bentz, in-laws Floyd (Mildred) Bowen, Jack (Shirley) Porter Jr, son in law Keith Brausam and special friends Melvin Smith and Don Zinnani.
Cremations rites have been accorded. Visitation will be held 12-1pm. Funeral services will follow at 1pm on Monday, November 28th at East Jordan Methodist Church, 22027 Polo Rd, Sterling, IL followed by a celebration of life.
