Gilbert Quick Obituary

Gilbert A. Quick
Born: September 15, 1932 in Groom, TX
Died: November 25, 2023 in Sterling, IL
Gilbert A. Quick, age 91, of Sterling, died Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Rock River Hospice and Home.
Gilbert was born September 15, 1932 in Groom, Texas, the son of Clinton Harvey and Lorraine (Johnson) Quick. He served in the US Navy and later attended Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis, MN. Gilbert married Marilyn Helms on September 3, 1955 in Rock Falls. He was employed at Northwestern Steel and Wire in Sterling for 34 years retiring in 1994.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Quick of Sterling; four children, Brad (Jennifer) Quick of Davenport, IA, Randall (Rebecca) Quick of Geyserville, CA, Greg (Krista) Quick of Sterling, and Amy (John) Reesman of Oconomowoc, WI; ten grandchildren, Kathryn Quick, Oliver Quick, Olivia Quick, Amanda (Ryan) Williams, Zachary Quick, Molly Quick, Brandon (Brian) Quick, Jack Reesman, Greg Reesman, and Steven Reesman; and five great grandchildren, Rhyan Williams, Charlotte Williams, Lennon Williams, Landon Murphy, and Jameson Kelly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Daniel Quick; one grandson, Timothy Quick; one sister, Jackie D'Amico; and one brother, Ronald Quick.
Gilbert was the epitome of "the renaissance man". He developed expertise in wood working, art, photography, sculpture, and pottery. He was classically trained in carpentry and was a golf enthusiast. To match his talent, Gilbert showed strengths as a world class athlete. He was a Naval Atlantic fleet champ who held titles and records in both boxing and wrestling. Gilbert was also a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Those outside his family knew him as a friend who gave the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. We are all truly better to have known him.
