James "Jim" Cox
Born: December 5, 1970 in Fort Meade, Maryland
Died: November 19, 2022 in Port Byron, IL
James T. "Jim" Cox, 51, of Port Byron, IL, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, November 19, 2022. Visitation will be from 3-7 pm on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church, 9412-228th St. N., Port Byron. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 28th at the Church. Cremation will take place following services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jim's children's education fund or to the Disabled American Veterans.
Jim was born December 5, 1970 in Fort Meade, Maryland to G. Thomas and Sandra (McNeal) Cox. Being the son of a career Navy Serviceman, he grew up in multiple places and graduated from high school in Caribou, Maine. Upon graduation, Jim joined the US Navy where he spent his 12 year enlistment on submarines working in nuclear propulsion. Following his honorable discharge in 2000 he was hired at Exelon Nuclear Generating Station in Cordova, IL, as a training instructor. Over the course of his career with Exelon he held several leadership positions within the plant.
Jim was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Port Byron. He enjoyed sports, especially hunting with his Dad and golfing. He was an avid Washington Commanders fan. Jim was a loving father and husband and took great pride in his children and their achievements.
He is survived by his parents, Tommy and Sandy Cox, Caribou, ME; wife, Tora Cox and children, Billy and Katie Cox, Port Byron; daughter, Jessica Cox, Jacksonville, FL; brother-in-law, Mack Hebert, Portland, ME; sister-in-law, Donna Cox, Oakland, ME; and nieces and nephews, Amber, Matthew, Tom, Ben and Sarah. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Cox; and sister, Cher Hebert. Share a memory or condolence at www.gibsonbodefh.com
