MORRISON – Kevin "Kev" Charles Castle, 70, of Dixon, died Thursday, June 24, 2021, at Pleasant View of Morrison.
Kevin was born January 18, 1951, in Amboy, IL the son of Clarence J. and Anna (Donavon) Castle. He married Sherry Strub December 19, 1970. They were married 17 years, and later divorced but remained good friends. Kevin had a contagious smile, liked music but loved Elvis, and had many cars over the years, even trading his '65 Mustang in for the latest station wagon. Kevin was a fun father, letting his young kids steer the car as they drove around town. He waved to everyone, especially the police and truck drivers. He worked in the garden as a kid and had his own garden for many years. He made the best crockpot soups. He was always willing to give friends a helping hand, doing yardwork or giving ones a ride.
He worked at Eagles Grocery Store in the CWT program before graduating from Dixon High School in 1970. Kev went on to work at the steel mill plant in Rock Falls for 13 years until they closed the plant. He started a lawn mowing service, and worked many jobs over the years including caretaker at Kreider Services and NICIL of Sterling. Later in life, he was a greeter at Walmart and delivered for Pizza Hut before retiring. He enjoyed driving through parks, was always on the go, and traveled to many states including FL, UT, NY, and CA. He took a nap every day. He enjoyed being around his family and friends, especially Sherry (you never forget your first love). A pet lover from his horse, which he rode to deliver newspapers as a preteen with his dog Penny at his side, to his last furry friend Riley, he loved them dearly.
Survivors include his children, Jeremy (Cindy) Castle, Shelby Martin, and Darcey (Josh) Lewis of Dixon; two brothers Ronald (Rosemary) Castle of Polo and Danny Mishler of Montana; one sister Karen (James) Miller of Aurora; eight grandchildren, Ashley, Zackary, Jacob, Carmen, Alexander, Levi, Chloe, and Jeremy; and one great-grandchild, Marie.
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Judy Farnese; and one brother, Donald Castle.
