Robert "Bob" Charles Laidig
Born: December 19, 1943 in Dixon, IL
Died: March 12, 2023 in Grand Detour, IL
Robert "Bob" Charles Laidig, 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Grand Detour, on Sunday, March 12, 2023. He worked as a foreman at Northwestern Steel and Wire, retiring in 1992.
Bob was born on December 19, 1943, in Dixon, the son of Robert and Evadell (Olszewski) Laidig. He married Alice (Colson) Laidig in April of 1964. She preceded him in death in November of 1972. He then married Carol (Myrick) Laidig in October of 1975. She proceeded him in death in January of 1986. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era. Bob was a kind-hearted, loving, hard-working man. He had a sharp wit and a spirited sense of humor - he was always up for telling stories and having a good laugh. He loved his family dearly; he will be greatly missed.
Bob leaves behind his four beloved children, Missy (Jeff) Hillhouse, of Austin, TX, Melissa (Lonnie) Horton, of Chandler, AZ, Cari (Brian) Scaff, of Austin, TX, Robert Laidig, of Loveland, CO; nine grandchildren, Drew, Chase, Alex, Nathan, Foster, Connally, Bobby, Lucy, Kathryn; and many dear friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Laidig; his second wife, Carol Laidig; his parents, Robert and Evadell Laidig; and two sisters, Rexine Riley, Nada Jeanblanc.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Serenity Hospice, Tawny Hamill, Denny Coomes, Diana Westart, Bob's Caretaker Femi, and the many wonderful friends and neighbors who always helped out when needed.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
Cremation Rites have been accorded.
Memorials may be directed to Serenity Hospice and Home, in Oregon, IL.
Arrangements were completed by Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon.

I use to converse with Bob Laidig, if i had an issue with a loaded car of steel. Let me tell you, this guy knew his stuff !
