Alvin Blalock Obituary

Alvin Blalock - BELLVILLE - Alvin Blalock, 94, died Thursday, December 23, 2010, at Camelia Health & Rehabilitation Center. Born in Evans County, he married the former Melrose Anderson in 1938 and moved to Statesboro. He trained in South Bend, Indiana at the Studebaker headquarters to become service manager at the Studebaker dealership in Statesboro. In 1954, he moved to Bellville and owned and operated Blalock's Garage until his retirement in 1983. He then became groundskeeper for the City of Bellville, Pinewood Christian Academy and The Claxton Bank's Bellville Branch, until he retired in 2008 at the age of 92. He served on the Bellville City Council and as Mayor Pro-Tem for 44 years. Mr. Blalock was an avid fisherman and gardener. He grew up attending Canoochee Primitive Baptist Church and, later in life he attended Bellville United Methodist Church and was a member of the Elma & Grace Hearn Sunday School Class. He was a very dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He was predeceased by his wife, his parents: Melton & Matie Blalock, and brothers: A.W., Leonard, Aaron & Edward Blalock. Survivors: Dedicated daughter and son-in-law, Janara and Bobby McCoy of Bellville; two grandsons and a daughter-in-law, Darin and Anita McCoy and Jody McCoy all of Bellville; three great-grandchildren, Lyndi and Olivia Grace McCoy of Soperton and Wyatt McCoy of Bellville; four sisters, Rona J. Wilkes, Melba Rose, Carolyn Rogers and Wyndol & Clyde Smith, all of Savannah; sisters-in-law, Paula Blalock, Oveta Hendrix, Dee Alva Clark; a brother in law, Louis Anderson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation: Sunday, December 26, 5-8:00 p.m., at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home. Funeral: Monday, December 27, 11:00 a.m., at the Bellville United Methodist Church.
