Bobby Redding Obituary

Bobby Erle Redding, Sr., 73, of Savannah, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003 at Hospice Savannah, Inc. He was born in Emanuel County, GA., and was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Register Redding and their son, Bobby Erle Redding, Jr. He was a graduate of Commercial High School, and was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the US Army. He was a member of First Baptist Church of the Islands, and the Discovery Sunday School Class, where he was the oldest member. He had worked as a Routeman for Derst Baking Company for 19 years, after his discharge from the US Army. He then purchased Redding's Market on 40th and Montgomery and Redding's Market on Pennsylvania Ave. He then went to work for the State of Georgia at the Coastal Correctional Institute. He was a former member of the Better Business Bureau, and the Chamber of Commerce. He was an avid outsdoorsman, that enjoyed farming, gardening, fishing and hunting. He sponsored many softball teams and bowling teams. He is survived by two sons and daughters in law, Mark and Kathy Redding of Savannah, GA., and Tim and Robyn Redding of Metter, GA; two daughters and sons in law, Deborah and Richard Usher, and Robyn and Steven Kretschmar both of Richmond Hill, GA.; daughter -in-law, Julie Cathy Redding, of Savannah; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home - Hodgson Memorial Chapel, with Rev. A. Brooks Cail and Rev. Larry Wilson, officiating. Interment will follow in Lower Black Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews, Wayne, Douglas, Jeffrey, and Steven Wheeler, Stanley and Trey Redding. Mr. Redding was a fine man of whom each and every family member can be very proud. Two things which were evident about his life were his love for his family and his love for his Lord. God bless you as you move forward with so many wonderful memories of a life well lived.
