Donald Sperry Obituary

Donald D. Sperry, Jr. - ST. LOUIS, MO - Donald D. Sperry, Jr., 90, passed away on September 10, 2015 in St. Louis, MO. Beloved husband for 64 years of Nancy G. Sperry; father of Leigh (Jim) Hamer, Pamela Sawyer, and (the late) David Sperry. Dear grandfather of Michael (Frances) Sawyer, Melanie Sawyer, Alison (Erik) Kocanda, and Katherine (Ryan) Kerr. Great grandfather of five. Don grew up in River Forest/Oak Park, IL. He attended Kenyon College before joining the U.S. Navy Air Corp in 1946. Don graduated from Michigan State University in 1950. Don and his family settled in Northbrook, IL while he enjoyed an exciting career as Advertising Sales Manager with Sports Illustrated. He retired to Skidaway Island (Savannah, Georgia). Don always looked forward to Memorial Day when he and Nancy headed north to 'the cottage' on the beach in Douglas, Michigan where he had spent all of his summers. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, an awesome dad, and a great 'Boppa'! He had a fun-loving personality and a 'snappy' wit! We will miss him dearly and all the great times we shared! Memorial contributions can be made to JDRF, if desired. Savannah Morning News September 16, 2015 Please sign our Obituary Guest Book at savannahnow.com/obituaries.

It was nice when my husband and I lived near Don and Nancy! We had some good times together and I think of them often. May those memories help bring a smile to your faces now that Don is no longer on this earth.
Best to you, Nancy and family, Maggie Kivlen Mitchell

Don was a great next-door neighbor to us on Skidaway Island, fun to be around and never at a loss for words. We are glad to have known him, and wish to extend our condolences to the family. Bobbi and Dave Erwin
