Doris Francis Obituary

Doris Juanita Rolison Francis - SAVANNAH - Doris Juanita Rolison Francis, 74, went to be with her Lord on Friday, March 27, 2009 after a long struggle with cancer. Mrs. Francis began working with the Weis theater chain while attending Commercial High School. Upon graduation in 1954 she began a long and successful career in the banking industry. Once she realized she enjoyed traveling she became a travel agent and for many years she enjoyed helping others with their travel itineraries. From London's, Buckingham Palace to Honolulu's, The Royal Hawaiian Pink Hotel she would often visit exotic locales so she could inform her customers of what to expect when they booked their travel arrangements with her. In addition to her career in 1964 she began a two decade affair with the Army life when she married SGM Joseph H. Francis. Three years after his death she returned to Savannah in 1987. Mrs. Francis believed in giving back to the community by supporting many charities particularly ones pertaining to children. She was a supporter for St. Jude Children's Hospital for many years. Mrs. Francis was a member of Windsor Forest Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Francis; her mother, Mattie Duffield Rolison and father, H. Dan Rolison who was killed in the line-of-duty on September 25, 1960. Survivors are her brother, and his wife, W. Kermit and Sharron Rolison, Stockbridge, GA; his children, Thomas Dan Rolison and his sons, Jacob, Jared and Robby, Denver, CO and Ronald Eugene and Christy Rolison and their children, Isaac, Lydia and Nolan of Royston, GA; her half sister, Mary Jan Stalvey and her daughter, Stephanie Stalvey of Savannah and a host of aunts and cousins. Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel with Dr. James N. I am so sad about Doris'passing and will miss her dearly. She was such a special person who has left me with many wonderful memories. I enjoyed working with her in travel and knowing her as a friend. She loved to laugh and enjoyed life. I know she is at peace now. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
