James Spires Obituary
A lifelong resident of Hinesville, he was a member of First Baptist Church of Ludowici and Bradwell Institute Class of 1980. He was very active in the Boy Scouts and enjoyed the Pinewood Derby.
If you could combine love, sunshine and the best storyteller in the world, that would be Lucky. He could tell a story better than anyone except his granddaddy, James. He was a hard worker who loved his job and was always ready for a quick laugh and a poke in the side to get you screaming. Lucky was a jack of all trades, could operate any piece of equipment, and draw anything he could see. He was a good friend, a loving husband and father, and the best son and brother. He was a wonderful Christian man who knew no boundaries.
He is survived by his wife, Dara Hailey Spires; parents Harold and Sandra Spires; sister and brother-in-law, Lori Spires Versele and Frank Versele; children, Samantha Spires Dover (Kelby), Cory Thomas Spires, Valerye Ralph, and Chad Ralph; special niece, Olivia Versele; aunt and uncle, Rhonda and Danny Brant; special cousins, Jamie Brant Lane (Brooks), Jolie Brant Jenkins (Daniel), Emerson Lolly Proper (Blair); mother-in-law, Joy Sapp; sisters-in-law, Robin Hailey, Tisha Wright, and Keely Ragin; and numerous cousins and other family members.
Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 2 pm, Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Midway United Methodist Church with Reverend Hank Perry and Reverend Eric Rentz officiating. Mr. Spires will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Bradwell Institute's class of 1980.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospitals www.stjude.org.
Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences can be made at www.carteroglethorpe.com.

I was so saddened to hear of Lucky's untimely passing. He was a wonderful wonderful man, who made a positive impact on everyone he met. I know that he is with Our Father In Heaven. My deepest condolences go out to his many loved ones.

I didn't know Lucky. My husband and I were traveling from Newberry to our home in Georgia when we passed the accident. It was probably forty five minutes or an hour after it happened. I was aware that it was serious and I couldn't get it out of my mind. I prayed then for those that were involved and later on too. When I got home I searched the internet to see a report of what had happened. I feel somehow connected and still grieve for the family. I am so sorry this happened. My love goes out to you.

Lucky and his mom and dad and Lori Ive known longer than most. Was terribly saddened by this tragedy. I always loved to get Lucky to laugh. It was like mining for gold. It took a while, but when it happened his smile could light up a room. Thats how Ill always remember him.

Sandra, Harold, Lori and Family,
There are no words that I can say to take away your pain, but please know that I am Praying for God to comfort you. The pain never ends but will become bearable over time. You had 56 wonderful, love filled, happy years with a special, kind, loving man! We were all Lucky to know and love Lucky!
I have such happy, fun-filled memories of Lucky. He was such a character, always smiling and happy! I never heard him say a mean thing about anyone!. He was one of a kind, for sure, but he got all of his wonderful qualities from you! You both were such wonderful parents, I truly envied Lucky and Lori. You always gave your time and love to everyone, for which I am truly thankful!
I learned a lot from being around your family and have tried to show my own family and anyone who needed it, the love and caring that you gave freely to all of us kids!
I thank you for sharing Lucky with all of us and I know that I will never forget that handsome boy that I thought the world of!

I didn't know Lucky, but I was one of the firefighters that responded to the wreck. His wife told me what a wonderful, caring, awesome man he was.
