Dear Mrs. Douglas, Danny, Debbie, Stephen, Michael, Patrick, Brian and Terry,

My sister Linda called me today with the news about Mr. Douglas. I am so sad for all of you and know how bad you must feel. I have the very fondest memories of your family. Each and every one of you remain in my heart and I love to recall the wonderful fun we had together. I always thought Mr. Douglas was one of the handsomest men I had ever seen. I looked up to him and will never forget how kind and loving he was to me. That made such a big impression on me as a young girl and I often remember the respect and kindness both Mr. and Mrs. Douglas showed me. Danny always knew how much I adored his parents. To this day, they continue to be wonderful roll models for me as a parent as I navigate the sometimes difficult task of raising 5 teenagers. Your home was always a welcome place and everyone loved you. My prayers are with all of you as you grieve the loss of such a wonderful husband and father. Much love, Danni Bowers Varlan

Margie and family,

I got a call from Dwayne today telling me of John's homegoing. What a shock to hear this! Just talked with him a few months ago and sent pictures of baseball teams we played on together. I have been passing the word to as many teammates as possible. Just learned that Donald Parr passed yesterday. Also during my discussions with teammates, I found that Wendell Tarlton passed 2 years ago. We pray God will keep you and your family, bless you, and give you peace during this time.

Mrs. Douglas,

Dave and I live down the steet from you and have never formally met you or your husband, but our grown children know each other. My daughter and I were at an auction several years ago when your husband purchased a beautiful oriental rug for you. I looked at both of you on that day and realized without knowing you how much in love with each other you were. I drive by your home everyday and the love seems to come from all corners. I pray that my God will comfort you and your family in this time of grief and that through this a bright star will shine.

Your neighbor and admirer,

Dave and Debbie Barbee

To the Family of John Douglas:

Frank Estes called me yesterday to tell me of John's death. Needless to say, I was saddened, for we worked together for many years at Georgia-Pacific.

I was associated with hardwood lumber production and John with sales. Although our paths haven't crossed recently, I will sorely miss him.

Respectfully,

Carl Stelling

Dear Mrs. Douglas,

I am the lady who worked with Mr. Douglas at Georgia-Pacific and who now does the front desk at HealthSouth. I would talk to you while Mr. Douglas was having his CT scans. He was such a fine man and such a pleasure to be around. You were very blessed to have such a wonderful husband as you know my husband passed away in Feburary of 2005. He loved golf too so now maybe him and Mr. Douglas can play golf together on the perfect course.

I know that he will be missed dearly by a lot of family and friends, but having known him will always bring a smile to our face. I will be praying for you and your family in the days ahead and if there is anything I can do for you, please call.

What a blessing it was for me to have a second family in Augusta so many years ago when I was at MCG. I was always made to feel welcome and loved by my cousins and the hugs and kisses by Bubba always made me feel special. What a fine gentleman, who along with his wonderful wife, raised some of the finest children in the world. He is at peace now and I'm sure he and my mother are going to be watching out for all of us and will still be part of all our family gatherings, especially around this time of year when we celebrate our Irish heritage. My love and prayers to the entire Douglas clan.

Hearts are broken and many old athletes are very sad. A great man has left us. If I am anything it is because of my father and John Douglas.

Dear Margie, Pat & Maggie and ALL:

Through our faith we know, THERE IS A TIME FOR EVERYTHING. It was God's own time to bring your husband and father back to heaven. He was such a wonderful person and even though we were miles apart, whenever I heard his name, I was proud of having known him at B.C. and all of his accomplishments.

May he rest in peace and may all of you take comfort that he is with the Good Lord. You did all you could do for him in his illness and God will reward each of you for that.

Peace be with you.... Joe.....
