John M. "Jack" Dowling

John M. "Jack" Dowling, 84 passed away April 10, 2005 at his home in Akron Ohio. Born July 21, 1920 in Savannah Georgia to Arthur J. and Nellie Dowling, he resided most of his life in Los Angeles CA. Upon graduating from the University of Akron in 1951 he continued his studies at what is now Cal State Los Angeles. He retired from his position as guidance counselor and teacher at Virgil Jr. High (1962-1981) after 20 years of service. He loved to teach and was committed to helping the many students he served while at Virgil. Jack was a Navy veteran of WWII where he served in the South Pacific on the USS LST 625. Preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Florence Erickson; brother Arthur Dowling, sister-in-law Louise Dowling, and aunt Anne Ebberwein. He will be missed by his wife, Levona; daughters, Karen Dowling (Allen Martin), Kathy Dowling (Tim Simpson) Simpson, Sara Dowling (Rick) Stoffel; grandson, Eric Stoffel; special niece, Ellen DeYoung; nephews, Cal (Jim) and Pat Dowling and niece, Siobhan Moran; extended family Tanya Erickson Magos, Edward Erickson Jr. and Linda Kimura.
