John Sly

John J Sly ll March 9, 1924-February 16, 2014 - SAVANNAH - John Jacob Sly ll passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 16, under the care of Spanish Oaks Hospice. He was born in East Aurora, NY to the late Raymond Louis and Rachel McKennan Sly. A graduate of East Aurora High School and Syracuse University, he served his country proudly during WW ll in the Army Air Corps. In 1949 he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Moffett, to whom he was married for 64 years. As an Industrial Consultant, John's career took him to many locations around the U.S., as well as Eastern Europe. He was a man who enjoyed life and was passionate about golf, boating, and his family most of all. He will be greatly missed. Surviving are his wife, Mary Moffett Sly; daughters, Sherry Sly Wathern (Rick) of Raleigh, NC and Tracy Sly Oetgen (Gary) of Savannah GA; son, John J Sly lll (Carolyn) of Belmont, NC. Grandchildren Brooke Wathern Maynard (Joel), Hilary Wathern, Richard Wathern, Jackie Sly, Darden Sly, and Graham Oetgen. Sister, Ruthie Sly West of Phoenix, AZ; brother, Wesley Paul Sly of Lakewood, NY; many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Katy. A private family memorial service will be held Saturday, February 22. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Spanish Oaks Hospice 8510 Whitefield Ave Savannah 31406.
