My son is home for the weekend and was looking at one of his photos I have framed from RIP graduation. He pointed out "Peney" in the background.

When I now look at that photo I'll use it as a reminder to pray for you the family.

Again I thank you for his service and your sacrifice. 'Doc' Peney was greatly appreciated by those with whom he worked.

November 22, 2010... My son Jeff Reed
trained with Jon and this was his best
friend. Jeff shared with me today how
he lost his best friend. Oh, may the
Lord Jesus be very special to Susan and
his wife Kristie. Jon is resting. We
will miss him. I understand completely
the lose. Yes, Jeff came home ok. But
I constantly have the troops on my mind. This is a tremendous sacrafice
and an honor to serve our county USA.
Thank you Jon for your sweet smile even
though I never knew you. I have spent
time on the site getting to know you
with awe in my heart for your brave,
selfless heart. You have taught me
a lot today. Thank you and your family
for sharing on the WWW your life. I
send love, healing and comfort today
to Susan, Kristie and all the family.
God has promised to be with you every

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Jonathan will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms SPC. Jonathan Peney. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Jonathan. And to Jonathan it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Jonathan, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,353 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Jonathan’s family and loved ones.

I am Deeply Saddened to learn of the loss of Spc. Jonathan Peney. The Price this Brave Young Soldier and his family have paid for this country and for freedom, Will Never Be Forgotten.

There will Never Be Enough Ways to Humbly Thank our Young Heroes for their Sacrifices, my brother among them, killed in action in Vietnam in 1967.

"Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee."
~ Psalm 55:22 ~

I am sincerely hoping that you can feel the thoughts of caring and support that surround you today and in the difficult days ahead, as this Grateful Country mourns with you, for Someone Very Precious to you, Who Is A True American Hero to all of us.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for the privilege of allowing us to be part of this celebration of his life as a Husband, Son, and Army Ranger. Our America has been blessed with Jonathan and he has given us hope for our future. God bless all of you during this sad time in your lives.

Thank you, Johnathan Peney, for all you have done for us, our country and the 1/75. Thank you to his family, his wife and his mother, for helping him to become the brave hero and the Ranger with the "intestinal fortitude" to place himself in danger to care for his wounded brothers. I will keep Jonathan, his family, friends, and all of the 1/75 in my thoughts and prayers.

To the Peney Family:
I am so sorry for your lost, when I read about your son's death all the pain of my own son's death came tumbling back in.(I am SGT Robert Sanchez's Mother, he was with 1/75th Bcom. he died Oct.1 during last deployment.) Please know that you have a HUGE support group through the Rangers and their families. It is one of the few things that get me through these horrible times.
Remember our sons loved being soldiers and they died doing what they do best BY LEADING THE WAY. Someone told me this "Rangers lead the way in heaven as much as they do on earth". I am not an overly religious person but I found comfort in those words.
Mrs. Penney you and your Family will always be in my thoughts and prayers.

My family and I offer our most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and fellow Rangers of SGT Jon Peney.
Family and friends, you were already familiar with sacrifice... deployments, training, time apart, not knowing, every plan having a change. The sacrifices you made, the sacrifices Jon made, before June 1, most are not cut out to handle. Thank you for those sacrifices, thank you for supporting Jon and letting him focus on being SPC Peney and a Ranger. Those sacrifices probably went unspoken except when you were among others who knew first-hand. I may have passed Jon in a hallway at Tuttle or been behind him at the Montgomery gate, but I never had the honor of thanking him face-to-face for what he did, what he sacrificed before June 1. Family, friends and Rangers, I'm thanking you now... for everything. I am so sorry for your loss. I won't forget.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,

I am not there, I do not sleep.I am a thousand winds that blow;I am the diamond glints on the snow.I am the sunlight that ripened grain;I am the gentle autumns’s rain.When you awaken in the morning’s hush,I am the swift uplifting rush,Of quiet birds in circled flight.I am the soft star that shines at night.Do not stand at my grave and cry.I am not there; I did not die.

RANGER PENEY, You are the epitome of the Ranger ethos. You did indeed “Lead the way”! I don’t use the word hero very loosely but you are the definition of the word. I am grateful beyond words for the sacrifice that you, your family and the Rangers who went before you have made. Rest in peace Ranger. May GOD receive you into his open arms and look after your love ones during this time of sorrow and pain. “He who sheds his blood for my flag and his life for my home and country is now and forevermore my brother.
I will honor and respect him for the rest of my life”.
