Leonard Sukman Obituary

Leonard I. Sukman - SAVANNAH - Leonard I. Sukman passed away on January 21, 2016 in Savannah, Georgia with his family by his bedside. He was born on June 6, 1929 in New York City. He attended Boys HS in Brooklyn, went on to graduate from City College of NY and attained his Masters Degree in Geodetic Engineering from The Ohio State University. His career with the Defense Department spanned thirty-five years during which he traveled extensively to South America, Japan, and Papua New Guinea. In 1956 he was part of Operation Deepfreeze, Admiral Byrd's last expedition to Antarctica. Later, Len worked as a systems engineer for private industry. Lenny loved to sail, cook and make ice cream, was a fine crossword puzzler, stained glass maker and tennis player. He was terrifically funny with a dry sense of humor, smart and a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Hilda Kessler Sukman, daughters Julie Sukman, Abby Sukman-Kamertz, and son in law Bob Kamertz. Len's life will be celebrated with friends and family in the near future. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Doctors without Borders.
