Mark Fodor Obituary

Mark A. Fodor - SAVANNAH - Mark A. Fodor, aged 61, beloved son of Clara Fodor and the late Lester and beloved brother of the late Gary Fodor, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Buckingham South among family and friends. Mark lived a remarkable life and made numerous friends in Savannah. He was known for his big smile and outgoing nature. He never met a stranger and considered his friends family. Mark set many goals in life and always held great determination to meet them. On one special occasion, Mark learned enough Italian to sing his mother's favorite song, Sorrento, to her on her birthday. On another, he worked diligently to celebrate his Bar Mitzvah, and with the help of his brother Gary and Rabbi Gordon, he made this goal a reality. When a scholarship was established at Armstrong Atlantic State University in his late brother's name, Mark began raising funds and made regular contributions to that scholarship. Mark was an avid reader who took the daily newspaper as well as other print publications. He kept a close pulse on the political community as well as several sports teams, among them the Georgia Bulldogs, the Atlanta Braves and wrestling. Mark held several key volunteer positions in the Savannah community, including Public Relations Volunteer at United Way of the Coastal Empire, photography volunteer at Special Olympics, and volunteer at the Inner City Night Shelter. He worked at Mack's Five and Dime and assisted his mother Clara at Friedman's Art Store in Medical Arts. Mark was a member of the Savannah Ambucs and bowled for over 27 years. He twice won the esteemed MVP trophy for his sportsmanship and was loved dearly by his bowling team. Burial will take place on Thursday, August 9th at 3:00pm at Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Congregation Bnai Brith Jacob or to the Gary Fodor Scholarship Fund at Armstrong Atlantic State University. Not sure what to say?

September 1, 2012

Dear Mrs. Fodor,
I'm not sure you'll even remember me, but here it goes. I was visiting with a friend last night and we were talking about her upcoming trip to Savannah. I told her all about Gary, Mark, and our trips to the Rodney Hotel, and my trip very long ago to Savannah with the girl scouts. So I decided to get on the internet and look up Gary and found this. I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes. I am so sorry to see that both Mark and Gary have passed away. It's been many years since any of us have seen or talked to one another. My thoughts are with you.

Clara, I had no idea that Mark had died until I saw it on facebook tonight. He and Gary are together laughing and having a good time. Mark was so sweet and everytime I saw him, he made you feel like he was glad to see you. May all your wonderful memories of Mark help you through this difficult time.
