Nancy Heffernan Obituary

Nancy Ann Heffernan
Savannah, GA
Nancy Ann Heffernan, 68, passed away Tuesday April 6, 2021 at her home surrounded by loving and supportive family members. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Anthony "Tony" Heffernan, Jr., MD and Jean Ann Heffernan of Savannah and Tybee Island, GA. She was born in Augusta, GA on July 16, 1952, and lived in Savannah most of her life.
Nancy attended St. Vincent's Academy, HV Jenkins HS, Georgia Southern in Statesboro. She was a talented and well-known local private photographer on Tybee. One of her pieces of artwork was displayed at the Smithsonian. She worked as staff photographer for Savannah Morning News for a few years. She resided in Iran for a year and traveled extensively, crafting her photography skills. Nancy lived in Arizona for many years and during the mid-eighties she supported fire-fighters across the western United States by driving large fuel trucks to refuel helicopters. Nancy met life with a curiosity and a keen photographic eye and had a gift of being able to approach and talk with anyone. She "never met a stranger". She added vibrancy to others lives, and passed down those artistic qualities to her two daughters with honor. She was funny, blunt, and was able to pull out sides of people's personalities that they may have usually held in reserve. She was quite the character, and made life fun.
Nancy is survived by her brothers; Joseph (May Baird) Anthony Heffernan, III currently living in Sumter, SC, Mark (Justina) Stephen Heffernan of Maputo, Mozambique, Gregory Stuart Heffernan of Savannah GA; her two children, Katharine Marie Mothersbaugh of Tybee Island and Anna Claire Mothersbaugh of Charleston, SC; nieces: Ainslee Joyce Heffernan (SC), Ichar Nicole Heffernan (NY) and nephew: Anthony Tait Heffernan (SC).
She is preceded by her parents and brother, John Jeffrey Heffernan.
There will be a memorial beach side service held on Tybee Island, Ga, at later date, of which the family will be sure to notify other family members and friends as soon as the dates are decided upon. There will also most likely be a memorial service on the 'Zoom' app. for family and friends that cannot attend in person for any reason.

Nancy and I grew up together. Being only 2 days apart in age made our grade school years special and of course, lots of fun. My sincere condolences.
