Perry Lee was my Daddies first cousin. I know that up in heaven Grandaddy Clifford Callaway, my daddy Wilton Callaway, Uncle Wallace Callaway, Harold Callaway and a host of others are having such a time. They were all such great conversationalist.

Perry Lee will sadly be missed at the Callaway reunion in Claxton. We will never forget his sweet smile.

Ms. Jean and Cathy,

I was saddened to hear about Perry Lee. Yet, I must confess, I smiled too. I know that he is in a much better place than this ole world and, there is no doubt, he had a great welcoming committee! I know that mama was the first one to greet him at the Gate and she wanted to know everything that has been going on in the last 18 years!

I have fond memories of a September afternoon in 1966 when daddy picked up Patsy, Trisha, Paula, Nita and me up after school. Daddy was driving this old beat-up car which had a jammed front door that could be opened only from the inside. We were all asking WHY he was driving this? He hinted that it was my 16th birthday gift and all of a sudden, it was a beautiful car! After we got home and daddy let me take it for a spin around the block (?), Nita and I pulled back up in the driveway to see Perry Lee and daddy sitting in the swing. Perry Lee wanted to know how a liked the car and then told me that he had tried to get daddy to buy the new car that was parked in the driveway. Not only that, Perry Lee INSISTED that I drive IT around the block. The "beautiful" old beat-up car was not as pretty when I got back.

I am not sure to this day if daddy had planned this OR IF PERRY LEE PULLED A FAST SALES PITCH (either is quite possible!), but needless to say, I ended up with the best car I ever had! 1966 baby blue Ford Falcon, straight stick on the column, AM radio . . . and who needed A/C back then?!! I still have the poloraid picture of Perry Lee shaking my hand and giving me the title. What a day!

Claxton has lost one of its greatest assets! There is no doubt that Perry Lee loved Claxton! For that PUBLIC reason and many more personal ones, he will be missed!

Please know that I am thinking of both of you and your family and I hope that all the wonderful memories help to make this an easier time for you.
