My best high school class times were spent in Mr. Bland's chemistry classes 1976-1978. I was also his lab assistant one year. I will always remember the slide-rule vs. calculator races. And the botched thermite experiments. Good times. I am sure Mr. Bland's influence helped guide me to engineering school and career.

My heart goes out to you as I read the memorials to Mr Bland. I lost my youngest child in the same manner as Wayne and I know you live daily with the Why and only if. It took a longtime for me to realize that we all have a day to go. GOD never tells us ahead of time and how it will be. Take comfort that GOD does know the heart and the Wayne is in a place that he loves and would not come back if he could. We all want to be there too. May GOD bless you all and bring you the peace and understanding that will bring you comfort. Wayne was a wonderful man and that does not go unrewarded by GOD.

In life there are few people in my memory for whom I can say that I had total respect. Wayne was one of those people. He was helpful, respectful, kind and totally unselfish with a quiet sense of humor. The news of his untimely passing was a shock to all who knew him. Live with the wonderful memories that you have of him and know that a day will come when you will be together again.

Mr. Bland welcomed me to Groves in 1986 as if he had known me forever. Yes, I was a lil spit fire, but he was stern when he needed to be and also understanding of all of his KIDS issues. Oh, how i wish you were still on this earth to help guide my child as you did me. I have always carried with the me the plaques in the hall way that he pointed out to me, "Winners never quit & quitters NEVER win" no truier words have ever been spoken. Mr. Bland you are deeply missed. Sherri

Wayne was one of my dearest friends growing up. I was in Barcelona, Spain on active duty as a Navy Chaplain when he died. I was the guy who put the scar on his face! Playground accident in fourth or fifth grade. I've missed him. Tom Nichols

You are a most loving family to always keep Wayne's memory alive. His memory is special to me because he died the same day my brother died. Also, as a teacher, I remember his good work at the Board of Education. May God continue to comfort you and remember that families are together forever!
